STARRY MESSENGER

project

JOIN OUR CLASS FOR THIS PROJECT

It's 1633... Galileo Galilei has been charged as a heretic by the church authorities. His views on the movement in the skies are a direct contradiction to the views of the church, who believes that the sun moves around a stationary earth. To defend his viewpoints, Galileo needs 21st century knowledge to prove his 17th century breakthrough thinking. You are summoned back to the seventeenth century to help him do this.

Your assignment is to prepare a case to clear Galileo of these charges and save him from house arrest, and certain humiliation. To do so you will need to understand:

                Day and Night

                Seasons

               Time (Sundials)

              How We View Constellations

              Shadows

Equipped with your new understanding you will return to 1633 with enough evidence to clear Galileo's name. You will collaborate with his defense team to help present the truth regarding Galileo's findings of the solar system.

How effectively you do this has the potential to rewrite history...

JOIN OUR CLASS!

This is an online collaborative project for middle school students from around the globe. The focus of our project is learning about Space (the movement in the skies) and using what we've learned in a simulation experience surrounding the 1633 trial of Galileo. The Starry Messenger Project will teach curriculum content and provide an engaging way to apply it.
Classes may complete as many parts of this project as they choose to. Each class will be encouraged to submit their project work for posting on The Starry Messenger Project web site.
Those interested in joining "The Starry Messenger project" should contact project coordinator, Brenda Dyck .
