A HOMELESS SAMPLER

WHAT IS A SAMPLER?

The Internet is a great place to find new and exciting resources. "Subject Samplers" are an Internet tool that makes use of this interesting information by creating an online research activity that will connect readers to the topic being studied.

In a “Subject Sampler”, learners are presented with a carefully chosen number of web sites organized around a main topic. Students are enticed by offering web sites that provide something interesting to do, read, or see. From here, readers are asked to respond to the web-based activities from their own perspective. Rather than uncovering pure facts, students are asked about their own thoughts and opinions on topics, experiences that they have had, and interpretations of artwork. More important than the right answer is that readers are invited to join other learners as the explore the topic. One of the best byproducts of this assignment is that the results of their work are published online so that others can use the Sampler to learn about the topic.
