James' Page
Dear Delegates of the United Nations:
Hi my name is James I am 14 years old and I am representing my country Canada. I think we still need to improve on all of our rights but we are doing.
Children Need to Have Fun!
I have learned that ever child should get treated as everyone else. I have learned that ever child has the right to have your rights met and to live in a safe place and have your life always be safe. I have also learned that a lot of children around the world are not getting there rights met and in some countries they are not allowed to go to school or have some of there rights met. Still in some country like Africa, have child labour and the children are getting abused. Even in North America there is still child labour there are still children not getting their needs met and there are still children getting abused. A lot of the rights that were set in the 1989 convention are not even taking place. This is just some of the things Ive learned so far.
The 10 Most Important Rights
Ever child has the right to the rights no matter what colour sex, religion, race, Language or any other opinion.
What They Have Done Well On
I think we have done well on some rights but also nothing has improved inregards to some rights. One of the rights that has improved is Child Labour. After they set an age limit to when a child can work child labour abuse has gone down a huge amount. Before there were a lot of children having there rights violated by forcing children to work when they were really young. In Africa there is less child labour abuse than before but there are still a lot of sweat shops or kids having to work for pennies a day. These children are close to having freedom. We have also done well on allowing the voices of children to be heard. So many children still have no choice in their future either because they can't or because they have no choice.
What We Did Poorly On
I think one thing we have done badly on is that children are still dying from preventable decease. Did you know that over 10 million children under the age of five die from preventable decease. This is a huge amount of people.149 million children in third world countries are still suffering from malnutrition.
There are over 100 million kids not able to go to school either because they are not allowed to or because they dont have the facilities. Most of these kids are girls because in some countries girls are not as important as boys.
I think one thing we have done badly on is the children are still dying from causes that can be stopped.
Should children have to fight over food?
