Dear Delegates of the UN,
My name is Samantha. I come from
Canada where, right now, there is no war and where there is peace. Even so, it is still
not totally safe for kids or for anyone.
This month I have been
learning about Children's Rights. I have learned over this month that children have the
right to a house, loving family, food, water and a whole lot more. If children have the
right to all these things, why are children walking around with no loving family, no food,
no home, no clean water and lots of other things that they have the right to have? I come
to you here today to talk to you about which Childrens Right have been met, which
have not and how we can make imporvements.
Over the years, I have heard
about how many kids around the world die from starvation, thirst, disease and people who
just dont care. I have seen kids walking on the road homeless, foodless, clean
waterless, with nobody to care for them. I dont think that the world has done very
well concerning how they have addressed Childrens Rights in some places.
In Canada, I think you have
done well in some places. You have done well by providing shelter for homeless kids and
orphanages for kids with no family but for you have not addressed parents or families who
dont care about their kids and sexually or physically abuse their children. I
think something needs to be done about this. Lots of kids, when they are abused, are
to scared to tell someone about it or they dont have someone to tell. To help this
problem, I think that you should have more people that kids can talk to and that kids can
trust. The kids also have to know that the person will do something about their problem.
You also have to some how tell all kids that they have someone to go to if they have a
problem with their parents.
In Africa, I think you have
not done well at all with imporving Childrens Rights. Kids are being killed and
enslaved because they are black. I think something needs to be done about this now. Blacks
and whites should have the same level of respect. People should not be judged by what they
look like. Every child has the right to live and I think someone has to do something about
how the children in Africa are being treated. I dont think that they should have to
do something to protect themself all by themself. I think that you or the government
should help them in their fight for freedom.
I think the government has
done very well with respecting the responsibility of parents. They know when the parents
arent doing their job. The government has done well with respecting the different
religions.
I have told you what I know
is happening and how you can change some of it. What rights you have met and what you have
not. I came here today to talk to you about childrens rights and how you can improve
them. I know I have not talked to you about every thing that is happening in the world and
how you can improve it, but I know that you can think of some rights that have not been
met. Some rights like, the right to a safe place and much more. I hope I told you about
some things that need to be done and I hope you will take action in fighting for
Childrens Rights.
