*United Nations 2002*
Dear ladies and gentlemen, delegates of the United Nations Assembly. My name is Angel and I am from Canada. I am 13 years old.
Over the past few weeks, I have been learning about Childrens Rights in our world and right here in our class. Ive learned about what make a place safe, and how children in different places of the world are still struggling for freedom. I believe that every child should get the love and equality that we are offered here. Every child should receive the food, shelter, and clothing they deserve. I also believe that you should be able to follow any religion you choose to.
In some recent articles that Ive read, children were seriously being abused mentally, physically, and spiritually. People should allow children to be just as free as we are here.
Here is some information about the current reality for children in our world.
Out of 100 children, 55 are born in Asia, including 19 from India, and 18 from China. 8 are from Latin America and the Caribbean, 7 from the Middle East as well as North Africa, 16 from sub-Saharan Africa, 6 former Soviet republics and Baltic states and lastly, 8 from industrial countries.
Out of 100 births worldwide, 33 are unregistered. |
27 have not been immunized against any diseases
9 die before age 5 | |
Out of the remaining 91, 18 do not attend school. 11 of these 18 are girls.
18 children have no access to clean safe water and 39 have no sanitization. |
Although many wrong things have been happening, there is some progress;
3 million less kids died of preventable causes last year that in 1990
Reducing the number if deaths of children from diarrheal diseases
Bringing polito*** to the brink of eradiction
Protecting 90 million newborns each year from significant loss of learning ability. |
Despite this, there are still a few problems;
Over 20 million kids under 5 still die each year from preventable causes
149 million children in developing countries suffer from starvation
Over 100 million kids, majority are girls; are still not in school
Millions are trapped in child labor, trafficking, prostitution, and conflict. |
Every child deserves, not only love and friends, and family, but also:
Anti-poverty, {adequate food, water, clothes, and shelter.}
Anti-discrimination {fair treatment}
Participation {expressing views}
Peace and Safety {safe communities}
A protected, and preserved environment |
Here are some suggestions that you may find useful:
Q: 20 million kids less than 5years old die from preventable causes
A: Have some doctors and/or nurses; go around the "poor" countries giving immunizations. Or send medical treatments with detailed instructions.
Q: 149 million in developing countries are still starving
A: Send extra money for the residents while building their buildings, so they wont starve.
Q: Over 100 million kids, majority girls, are still not in school
A: Send money in order to support the families to send their daughters {and sons,} to be educated. This way, the girls {eventually mothers,} are smarter to do whats right for their kids and spouse.
Q: Millions trapped in child labor, trafficking, prostitution, and conflict.
A: Build more schools! This way, youll attract more exchange students who will need jobs. Then they can take the place of those poor suffering children, and child labor will be finished
All children deserve to live freely, without the threat of harm. Dont you agree?
