CHINESE ARTS

IN CALGARY'S CHINATOWN

By: Braeden

In the downstairs section of the Chinese Cultural Center in Calgary is an excellent museum. Many Chinese artifacts can be found there, including many examples of Chinese art such as a huge Oriental Rug, pottery, vases, watercolor paintings. One of the most spectacular pieces of art is a tiger made completely from different types of feathers. The pictures below are from this museum in Calgary's Chinatown. From the examples below you can tell that the Chinese loved to pay attiction to detail.

The Chinese pay a lot of attention to small details. The picture shown in Photo1-3 are made out of feathers. Imagine how long that would take and the great skill involved.

Photo 4-6 are vases and artifacts from the museum. The paintings on the vases were delicate and some appeared to tell a story.

This rug was huge and colorful. Like the Chinese paintings, it appeared to tell a story or have a message to share. The Chinese Cultural Center's museum is a great contribution to Calgary.
