JIGSAW ACTIVITY |
JIGSAW PUZZLE ACTIVITY
For this activity you will be using a cooperative learning approach called a "Jigsaw Technique". Students will be broken into groups of four with each group member responsible for listening to an online audio file or reading an article about the use of internment.
Each student will prepare a summary of the information from their audio file or article. They will be considered the "expert" on this audio file or article. Each group will appoint a leader who will help facilitate the group activities. You will be evaluated using the following:
Summary and Participation Rubric
You may need instruction regarding how to write a correct summary. This instruction sheet can be located at the link below:
Write the summaries by hand or use the computer and save them to your network drive.
The summary experts will gather together in a temporary group with students who were also assigned to the same article that they were. These experts will be given time to discuss the main points of their summaries and will add to or adjust their statements so that the information is clear and informative. The experts will rehearse how they will present their information back to their jigsaw group.
Students will rejoin their jigsaw group and present their segment to the group. The group should ask questions for clarification. Your teacher will circulate throughout the groups, observe the process and provide suggestions.
Once the individual presentations have been made, the class will gather back together to discuss what the class has learned about this topic.
