Visual Representation of Internment

Now that you have had the opportunity to learn about internment in class, it is your turn to further explore an aspect of internment that you find particularly interesting or intriguing.  You may choose to work with a partner for this activity.

Step 1:  Select a topic

You may select any topic relating to internment in either the past or the present day.  Try to make your topic as specific as possible in order to make it easier to research.  Remember that “Life in Ukrainian Internment Camps” is a more reasonable topic than “Internment in Canada.  Do some preliminary research prior to finalizing your topic.

  Select three or four key aspects you would like to discuss in your research.

  Once you have selected your topic, submit it to your teacher for approval.

 

  Step 2:  Begin to research your topic

  Use Internet sites, library resources, newspaper articles and whatever other sources you deem relevant and accurate.  Remember that not all websites provide accurate information, so you may want to double-check some of your sources.

  You may keep your notes on paper or use the laptop to type notes.  Remember to save any files you create to your network space.

 

    Step 3:  Select your method of presentation

  You can choose to present your information in one of the following formats:

  A:  Web Page

Once you have completed your research, you will organize it and present your information as a web page.  Using Dreamweaver, you will modify your page properties and select appropriate graphics to enhance your page layout.  You are welcome to draw your images and scan and insert them into your page.  If you choose images for the web, remember to properly cite them.

Remember, your goal is to clearly and creatively present your research information.  Avoid using too many graphics, colors or other “bells and whistles” that may distract from the message you are trying to portray.

  B:  Short Documentary

  Use your research to complete a short script that conveys your information.  After your script is finalized, complete a storyboard prior to filming (you must present your storyboard before you are able to use the cameras). Using iMovie, you may produce a skit-type documentary (live action) or create a narrative script that you read as a voice over while showing a series of still photos.  Your documentary should be approximately one and a half minutes in duration.

  If you select this option, remember to sign out the digital video cameras if you will be using them.

  C.  Storybook

In this option, you will use your research to create a storybook in iPhoto.  You may create either a fictional story (based on the facts you have learned) or a non-fictional story.  Either way, use what you have learned to write a creative, yet factual representation of your knowledge.  The images you select will help the reader gain a better appreciation and understanding of your topic.  You may draw and scan your own images, take your own photos, use images from books, or download images from the Internet (remember proper citation).

You can submit your storybook as a pdf file to your teacher.

  D:  Your Own Creative Idea

If you have an idea for presenting your information in a creative method that uses technology, see your teacher fro approval.

 

  Assessment

  You will be responsible for creating the rubric that will be used to grade your creative work.  Using the an online rubric site called Rubistar,  you will work your way through steps that help you select each category that will be graded.

  After clicking on the Rubistar link above, you can click on “Multimedia” under the “What is Rubistar?” heading.   On the next page, you will see a list of topics.  Click on the appropriate topic (Digital Story telling, Website Design, or Video pre-production).  Follow the directions to create your rubric.  Read the instructions carefully and remember to save your completed rubric to your network drive. Think about the categories carefully as your project will be graded using these categories. Take note that you can create your own categories and omit ones that don't fit. Print it off, write your names on it and submit it with your project.
